Most major health insurance plans typically cover about 80% of the cost of services provided by an 'in- network' licensed professional counselor. When using health insurance, the contracted clinician's fees are set by the insurance carrier, not the clinician. The fee set by the insurance carrier is based on that contract and is not negotiable. Choosing an 'in-network' provider will reduce out-of-pocket costs to clients.
My office will bill your insurance carrier directly to collect payment. The carrier will then send you a copy of an 'explanation of benefits' (EOB), which will summarize the payments they have made to the clinician, as well as the amount of your co-pay and/or deductible responsibility.
Co-pay and/or deductible amounts are collected from clients at the time of service. These amounts vary, depending on the insurance plan you and/or your employer have chosen.
